INTRODUCTION CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
The China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a part of the Belt and Road Initiative adopted by the Chinese government. CPEC will involve a vast network of highways and railways that are to be built in Pakistan.
The idea of a corridor starting from the Chinese border in the north to Pakistan’s deepwater ports on the Arabian sea, dating back to the 1950s This motivated construction of the Karakoram Highway, which was completed in 1979.

KASHGAR TO GWADAR- CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
To overcome these losses, China introduced the belt and road initiative which links China to other countries through shorter routes. One of these routes includes CPEC, which connects the Chinese city Kashgar to the port of Gawadar in Pakistan and makes access to sea easy for China.
CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR involves the reconstruction of the Karakoram Highway. The Karakoram Highway will be an 887-kilometer long highway that will connect the China-Pakistan border and the town of Burhan, near Hasan Abdal.
The Eastern Alignment of CPEC involves roadway projects in Sindh and Punjab provinces. This motorway will connect Pakistan’s two large cities, Karachi and Lahore.
The Western Alignment will connect Barahma Bahtar Interchange near Wah Cantt, to Yarik, just north of Dera Ismail Khan. Yarik to Zhob, Zhob to Quetta, Quetta to Surab, Hoshab, Turbat, and Gawadar. The Central Alignment will connect Basima, Khuzdar, Sukkur, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, and terminate in Dera Ismail Khan.
RAILWAY PROJECTS OF CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
Railway projects will include, a complete overhaul of the Main Line 1 railway between Karachi and Peshawar, an upgrade on the Main Line 2 railway between Kotri in Sindh, and Attock.
The Main Line 3, the railway will connect Bostan near Quetta, to Kotla Jam, near Dera Ismail Khan, which will provide access to southern Afghanistan. Construction of the Khunjerab Railway line, includes a railway line, from the city of Havelian to the Khunjerab Pass on the Chinese border.
The seaport at Gwadar will be expanded and upgraded to allow larger ships to dock. It will also include a breakwater around the port, a floating liquefied natural gas facility that will be connected to the Iran Pakistan gas pipeline.
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PROJECT OF CHINA PAKISTAN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
A new international airport will be constructed in Gawadar. Other projects include a 300-megawatt coal power plant, a desalinization plant, and a 300-bed hospital.
ENERGY GENERATION PROJECTS OF CPEC
Energy generation will be a major focus of CPEC. Diamer-Bhasha Dam in Gilgit, Suki Kinari Hydropower Project in the Kaghan Valley, Neelum–Jhelum Hydropower Project Tarbela IV Extension Project Karot Dam on river Jhelum, Pakistan-China Fiber Optic Project Coal Mining and power project on Pind Dadan Khan, Bhikhi Power Plant near Sheikhupura, Balloki Power Plant near Kasur, Sahiwal Coal Power Project, China-Pakistan Joint Cotton Bio-Tech Laboratory, Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park near the city of Bahawalpur, Thar I and Thar II in Thar Coalfield, Jhimpir Wind Power Plant, near Thatta, Dawood wind power project near Banbhore, Pakistan Port Qasim Power Project.
COAL POWER PLANT
China-Pakistan Joint Marine Research Center Coal power plant at Hub, An LNG pipeline will be installed between Gwadar and Nawabshah, this pipeline is designed to be a part of the Iran Pakistan gas pipeline.
